Commencing the journey at Bristol Temple Meads, our train picks up at stations to Birmingham and Crewe. From here the diesel locomotive works fast along the West Coast Mainline offering spectacular views of the Cumbrian Mountains as we climb over the northern fells to the historic border city of Carlisle for a lunchtime sightseeing break. Here there will be time to visit the Cathedral or Castle or take a wander around the shops and eateries in the City Centre.

With everyone back on board, and our historic steam locomotive from the West Coast Railway’s steam pool at the helm of our special train, we depart for the scenic journey along Britain’s longest coastal route.

Running along the shoreline, through Workington and Whitehaven, we will have spectacular waterside views as we journey south. The Isle of Man may even be visible across the Irish Sea. We run adjacent to the coast through Sellafield, and Ravenglass. On passing Ulverston, we curve along the edge of Morecambe Bay to Grange-over-Sands. There are views across the bay as we cross Kent Viaduct at Arnside and arrive at Carnforth late afternoon, where we say goodbye to our steam locomotive, and the diesel locomotive takes over for the journey back to our set-down stations to complete a wonderful day.
